This community is a sparsely vegetated river bedrock community. There are little to no trees in the area. The shrub layer is dominated by Betula nigra, Cephalanthus occidentalis, Salix nigra, etc... The herbaceous vegetation is characterized by pockets of Justicia americana, Lysimachia terrestris, Scirpus cyperinus, etc... The vegetation is primarily growing out of small cracks in the bedrock.;This plot is located on the scoured bedrock surface near Sandstone Falls. This area is mostly dry now, but it is surely covered with water earlier in the season.

This plot represents a seasonally scoured bedrock area. It has many small pools of water. The vegetation is coming out of cracks in the bedrock.
